Today, Time Out Challenges presents a wonderful new challenge. It is an "Inspired By Words" challenge spotlighting a quote by Robert Henri ~
“Paint the flying spirit of the bird rather than its feathers.”
This quote that was chosen for this particular challenge is in homage to a worldwide celebration that takes place on or about September 15th every year - International Dot Day. Have your heard about it?
I have the great pleasure and privilege of working as a librarian in a PreK-8 school. What a fun and adventurous way to journey through my work days! I love books, and I especially love children's books. A couple of years ago, my awesome art teacher friend introduced me to a book called The Dot by Peter C. Reynolds. It is the story of a little girl named Vashti, who believes that she cannot draw, but her art teacher's encouragement leads her to change her mind.
I fell immediately in love with the book, and then I came to find out that since it's publication, a worldwide movement of sorts has grown with the intent to celebrate the power and potential that creativity can inspire. Imagine the power and potential of millions of people around the world connecting, collaborating, creating and celebrating all that creativity inspires and invites. This challenge is the Time Out Team's way of celebrating creativity. We here at Time Out hope you will let your creative flag fly, play and celebrate with us!

The sentiments are from SSS + CZ Design Hello You Clear Stamp and Die set. The black die cut banner is from Concord & 9th's Happy Card Frame Dies.

Now, I usually do the twist when a challenge has one, and this time is no exception; HOWEVER, you can not or can BARELY see just how sparkly this card is. I had an awful time photographing it, so I hope you can take my word for it! I am just plain out of gas and frustrated with trying to capture all that sparkle, so I admit it - I gave up.
The background panel is luscious navy with lots of sparkle and shine in it - it's from the December 2016 Hero Arts Monthly Card Kit - gorgeous. The beautiful Memory Box Flowering Christmas Tree is cut from white glitter paper - so sparkly!!!! You can't see that in the pic either. AND the sentiment is embossed in silver which has lots of sparkle and shine... my picture is flat as a board. But I tell you - it is fabulous IRL!!!!! Pinky swear!!!!
Anyway, the HLS Christmas Design Team has created lots of sparkly inspiration for you, so please head over to the Happy Little Stampers September Christmas Challenge and open up the inspiration portals!!! Christmas is only 114 days away here in the New York Metro Areac so get your holiday craftiness motor running. I simply can not get enough of this mermaid tail from Julie Ebersole's Mermaid's Tail set from Ellen Hutson... I don't think I have ever used a single stamp more than I have used this one! This time I embossed the tail in gold on the card base, and die cut the top panel placing the aperture over the embossed tail. I had used the stencil for another card. Afterwards, I left the distress inks on the stencil, sprayed it with water, and pressed it to a panel of watercolor paper. I love the soft, "foamy" effect. This card was made for a friend who needs a lot of support and encouragement right now. I just love the sentiments included in this set, and I thought these that I stamped on the inside were just perfect.
Elaine of Craft-E-Place is Guest Designer for this challenge. Elaine is such a talented artist - you will love a visit to her blog!
I dry embossed a piece of watercolor paper and then sprayed it with some autumn colors. Then I sprayed it with glimmer mist for some shine and put it aside to dry. I did some more die cutting and embossing and put this card together in 8 minutes and 5 seconds (not counting the drying time). I am really pleased with the way it turned out.
So please head over to the Time Out Challenge Blog, see the awesome inspiration that the Design Team has created, and leave them some love. Think Autumn, and try your hand at a quick make and link up your creation in the gallery for a chance to win. Have fun!
